The Polson Pirates rolled to a decisive 48-8 win over the Ronan Chiefs on Friday night, using an explosive first half to secure the regular-season finale between the two Lake County rivals.
Polson (3-5 overall, 1-4 Western A) scored on its first five possessions, building a 42-0 halftime lead behind a balanced offensive attack and a stingy defense that forced multiple turnovers.
Senior Daniel O’Roake opened the scoring with a 29-yard touchdown run, then added another from 36 yards out to lead the ground game with 85 yards on six carries. Quarterback Case Cox threw for 103 yards and three touchdowns, connecting twice with Holden Emerson from 9 and 55 yards, and once with Cody Haggard on a 5-yard strike.
Polson’s defense made key plays throughout the contest. Bradley Smith recovered a Ronan fumble inside the 10-yard line to halt a promising Chiefs drive, while Luke Horner intercepted a pass and returned it for an apparent touchdown that was called back by penalty.
The Pirates finished with 215 rushing yards and 118 passing yards, while the defense tallied three sacks and forced two fumbles.
Ronan (0-9 overall, 0-5 conference) broke through in the fourth quarter when Brodee Woll ran in from 7 yards out, followed by a Layton Burland conversion run to make it 48-8.
The Chiefs showed resilience late, highlighted by Scott Cameron’s 50-yard run into the red zone earlier in the half, though turnovers stifled scoring chances.
