If fourth-seeded Coeur d’Alene hopes to contend for a state title, the Vikings are going to have to crash the Madison-Skyview party. Madison, of Rexburg, is the three-time defending champion in what became 6A last year. The Bobcats beat Skyview last year for the title. Skyview won four straight from 2020-23, the first two in 5A (then the biggest division), then two more in 4A. Skyview and Madison are the top two seeds this year ... Rigby, fourth-seeded Coeur d’Alene’s opponent in the first round today, tied for fifth last year. The fifth-seeded Trojans last brought home a trophy from state in 2010, when they were runner-up to Century of Pocatello. ... The good news — in 2026, for the first time in three years, state in the top four classifications will return to North Idaho, with Coeur d’Alene, Lake City and Post Falls high schools hosting the 6A, 5A and 4A tourneys.
