Sept. 2, 1975 – MOST RAINFALL SEEN

Last month was Sandpoint’s rainiest August on record since 1968, with a total of 3.13 inches of rain, nearly two inches over the 10-year average. August was rainier here only five times in the past 65 years that records have been kept: 1926, with 3.98 inches; 1941, with 5.21; 1959, 4.57; 1965, 3.76; and 1968, when 4.01 inches was recorded.

FmHA UPS INTEREST RATE

Idaho’s Farmers Home Administration director announced increases to nine per cent from 8.125 per cent for rural housing loans beginning Sept. 3. The rate is set by the U.S. Treasury Department.

HOME FROM CRUISE

Lynnae Seppala and Betty Robinson of Senior Girl Scout Troop 423 returned home after a six-day yacht cruise through the San Juan Islands off the Washington coast. Lynnae, Betty and 38 other Inland Empire Girl Scouts and four adults camped on three of the 172 islands, and visited a fourth, hiking, swimming, scuba diving and beach combing.

Sept. 2, 1950 – SOCIETY

At Sandpoint’s Methodist parsonage on Aug. 29, Miss Marjorie Coulthard of Hope became the bride of Bruce Colwell of Hope in a double ring ceremony performed by the Rev. W.H. Lowther. Mrs. A.J. Nikkola of Sandpoint was matron of honor. William Colwell of Hope was his brother’s attendant.

TRAFFIC LIGHTS INDICATE GROWTH

The stop-and-go traffic lights arrived and will be installed immediately, one unit at the Cedar and Second avenue intersection, the second at Cedar and Fifth. The blinking amber-colored light that was at Cedar and Fifth will be moved to First and Pine.

SPENDING HOLIDAY AT LAKE

Chums since pigtail days, the Misses Ora Jean Moran, Barbara Avery, Gloria Pietsch and Virginia Haag are spending the holiday at the lake summer home of Mrs. F. Norton, grandmother of Miss Moran. The young ladies met in Spokane where the Sandpointers were guests of Barbara Balch. Miss Haag lives in Spokane; Miss Avery in Wenatchee.

WOODWARD’S REMODEL

Remodeling of the Woodward store [109 Cedar – in 2025, Baxter’s on Cedar] is completed. The shoe department was moved to the center rear of the store where it has a roomier display area. In the former shoe area, children’s clothes are now shown to better advantage. Several new counters of modern design have also been installed.
