PREP VOLLEYBALL: Burgess-Duquette's big day nets Priest River third straight win
MAX OSWALD | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 11 months, 2 weeks AGO
I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | September 2, 2025 11:00 PM

PRIEST RIVER — McKinley Burgess-Duquette could not be stopped Tuesday night.
The Priest River High sophomore hit for a team-high 11 kills and served up a team-high three aces as the host Lady Spartans swept the Lady Lumberjacks (25-12, 25-20, 25-18) in their 3A Central Idaho League and home opener.
"McKinley had an amazing game all the way around," Priest River High head coach Katlyn Ward said. "She showed up and had unstoppable energy on the front and back row."
Freshman Hadley Sandau added a team-high three blocks, senior Jayda Storro recorded a team-high 23 assists, her third 20-plus assist game of the season, and junior Callie Stanger led the way defensively with a team-high 10 digs.
Priest River (3-0) will look to remain undefeated Thursday when Kellogg comes to town for a highly anticipated 3A CIL matchup.

WALLACE — Senior Aurora Lane registered a team-high 14 kills, freshman Kiylah Anderson set up a team-high 33 assists as the visiting Lady Cats fell just shy of the Lady Miners in another 2A Scenic Idaho Conference five-set battle (25-18, 25-13, 10-25, 17-25, 17-15) Tuesday night at Wallace High.
Senior Piper Scarlett contributed a team-high six aces for Clark Fork, which used huge third and fourth set victories to get back into the game.
"Piper's serving was so steady and strong," Clark Fork High head coach Lyndsie Kiebert-Carey said. "She kept Wallace out of system every time she stepped back there."
On offense, freshman Vanessa Rogier added a career-high 13 kills while junior Nora-Jean Hoy chipped in 10 kills and four aces.
"Our hitters took big, brave swings in pivotal moments down the stretch," coach Kiebert-Carey said. "Kiylah worked hard to get them opportunities."
Defensively, Scarlett had a team-high 12 digs while Anderson and Rogier had 10 each. Hoy and Lane added eight and seven digs, respectively.
"It hurts to lose a heartbreaker like this, but they could have thrown in the towel after that second set and they didn't," coach Kiebert-Carey said. "I love coaching these kids. We're excited to play for our home crowd twice this week."
Clark Fork (0-3) will host Coeur du Christ on Thursday and Bonners Ferry on Friday for a pair of non-league matchups.
