KELLOGG — The Wildcat offense couldn’t be stopped during their season opening win over the conference rival Maniacs at Teeters Field.
Junior quarterback Porter Lewis threw seven touchdown passes, including three to senior Draedan Taylor.
On the other side of the ball, Kellogg’s defensive line kept Orofino’s ground-based game in check, which forced them into some tough passing situations.
Kellogg senior Chase Scribner also caught two touchdowns while fellow senior Andrew Lewis rushed for over 100 yards and a score as well.
Kellogg (1-0, 1-0 CIL) has a week off before traveling to St. Maries for another league contest Sept. 12.

SPIRIT LAKE — The visiting Wildcats won the last two sets to defeat the Tigers 25-21, 21-25, 19-25, 25-18, 15-9 in nonleague play.
Junior Paige Yrjana had nine kills and 21 digs for Kellogg, in its season opener. Sophomore Ella Yrjana added eight kills and 26 assists, freshman Gretah Angle 11 kills, senior Dani Henrikson three aces.
“Timberlake put up a huge block and we really had to figure out how to get around it,” said Hollie Yrjana, in the first year of her second stint as Kellogg coach. “We found a lot of success being smart with our attacks, not just swinging hard. Our hustle plays helped keep momentum throughout the night. I’m very proud of the girls for staying competitive and working as a team tonight.”
For Timberlake, freshman Jordyn Parke had 20 assists, freshman Everlee Powell 14 kills, seven blocks and three aces, sophomore Addie Archer 22 digs, five kills and three aces, sophomore Ella Johnsen 18 digs and freshman Layla Webb seven blocks.

OROFINO — Jordyn Stutzke had 13 digs and Paige Yrjana had 11 kills and three aces for the Wildcats in a 25-18, 25-16, 25-13 Central Idaho League win over the Maniacs at Orofino High.
“We had a rocky start and allowed Orofino to take an early lead on the first set as we struggled with serve receive,” Kellogg coach Hollie Yrjana said. “We pulled it together and never looked back.”
Aleah Philp had four aces and served 13 straight points in the first set for Kellogg.
Ella Yrjana had 20 assists and Dani Henrikson five blocks for Kellogg.

ST. MARIES — Aubrey Birdsell had 13 assists and six digs for the Miners in a 25-11, 25-18, 25-16 win over the Lumberjacks in the season opener for both at St. Maries High.
Kayden Stutzke had 12 assists and nine aces, Megan Hull 11 kills, seven digs and six aces and Kylee Phillips seven digs and five kills for Wallace.

WALLACE — Freshman Gretah Angle had 10 aces and 15 assists for the Wildcats in a 25-6, 25-9, 25-12 win over the Miners at Kirby Krulitz Court.
Junior Paige Yrjana had 12 kills and 12 digs, junior Jordyn Stutzke 14 digs and sophomore Ella Yrjana 11 assists and six aces for Kellogg.
“Consistent serving and playing with intent led us to an early season win over our valley rivals,” Kellogg coach Hollie Yrjana said. “This team is fun to watch when everything is clicking.”
Senior Kylee Phillips had four kills and five digs, senior Megan Hull 12 digs and four kills and senior Aubrey Birdsell 12 assists and four digs for Wallace.

MULLAN — The host Tigers opened their season with a 25-22, 27-25, 25-22 North Star League victory over the Warriors at the Mullan Pavilion.
“Mullan was a tough team to play tonight. Great game,” said Kootenai coach Elexus Moore-Rich, who praised the hitting of the Warriors’ Chloe Dorman and the serving of Anikka Hunter.
