Bigfork football drops opener against Frenchtown

The Bigfork Vikings struck first Friday night, but Frenchtown answered with 28 straight points to hand the Vikings a 28-7 non-conference loss in Class A football on the road.
Quarterback Cole Schmit connected with Austin Savik on a 13-yard touchdown pass early in the second quarter, and Cavin Wiest added the extra point to give Bigfork a 7-0 lead.
That momentum was short-lived as Frenchtown quarterback Dawson Rodoni responded with touchdown passes of 42 and 28 yards to push the Broncs ahead 14-7 at halftime.
The Frenchtown defense clamped down in the second half, holding Bigfork scoreless while the Broncs pulled away. Jake Forthofer added a short touchdown run in the third quarter, and Cole Johnson sealed the game with an explosive 83-yard scoring run in the fourth.
Bigfork hosts Corvallis on Friday night.
