The Whitefish girls cross country team packed up well and continued to lower times Friday at the Libby Invite, competing against a deep field of runners from across the Northwest.

"It was a great start to our racing season," Whitefish Head Coach Richard Menicke said. "Our freshman ran awesome in the JV races and competed in the upper half of their race packs."

Senior Sierra Gibb led the Bulldogs with a strong run of 22 minutes, 34.55 seconds, placing 37th overall in a race that saw more than 80 finishers. Close behind was fellow senior Maren Cromie, who clocked 24:11.76 to secure 60th place. Junior Sophie Douglas rounded out the Whitefish scoring pack in 25:32.59, taking 68th.

The Whitefish boys cross country team was led by sophomore Peter Schram with a personal-best performance, placing 63rd in 19 minutes, 11.44 seconds. His time marked a season-best effort and kept him within striking distance of the main pack.

"The kids who trained well over the summer looked strong, Menicke said. "Peter Schram had a lifetime best and to lead the boys, Mason Loeffler was near his lifetime best.as No. 2 varsity"

Sophomore Mason Loeffler ran a 19:41.81 finish, good for 75th overall.

"We are still getting athletes eligible to compete, we'll add five more this Friday at Rebecca Farm," Menicke said. "I am looking forward to continued improvement this Friday."
