PREP GIRLS SOCCER: Sandpoint settles for draw with Moscow

I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | September 3, 2025 12:00 AM

Sandpoint 0, Moscow 0

SANDPOINT — Junior Izzy Stark recorded 12 saves, senior defender Cecilia Dignan fended off multiple chances, but neither the Lady Bulldogs or Lady Bears scored during Tuesday night's 5A Inland Empire League match at War Memorial Field.

"Izzy did great coming out and playing off her line on some of those through balls," Sandpoint High head coach Alan Brinkmeier said. "Cecilia was really the 'Woman of the Match'. She's the last line and she's always there when we need her."

During the 42nd minute came one of Sandpoint's best chances when junior Bayah Ratigan kicked a clean pass inside the box for senior Hope Barnes, with the shot going off the opposing goalkeeper's hands and just over the crossbar.

Stark, during a one-on-one in the 50th minute, used her feet to step in and disrupt a Moscow shot out of bounds. During the 79th minute, the Sandpoint defense once again came up big as a Moscow shot hit off the top-left of the crossbar and the Lady Bulldogs cleared two back-to-back corner kick chances during the final minute of action.

The 72nd minute saw another solid chance for Sandpoint when freshman forward Coco Filtzer broke free and was about 10 feet from the goal line before being stopped by two Lady Bears defenders.

"Our midfield is good, when we keep possession and we link — it's that last pass that's either too long, not at the feet, or not there yet, and we're still waiting for that true No. 9 to come through and risk their all to put the ball in the back of net," coach Brinkmeier said. "Our front line is something we're going to continue to interchange right now until we can find out which three work the best together."

Sandpoint (1-2-1), which had five shots on goal in the contest, will travel to Coeur d'Alene on Thursday for a 6A/5A Inland Empire League showdown.
