The Pend Oreille Arts Council will kick off its "People, Places, and Things," exhibition by regional artist Daryl Baird at a Friday opening reception.

The First Friday event will be held Sept. 5, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the POAC Gallery, 313 N. Second Ave.

Baird’s solo exhibition features a wide-ranging collection of portraits, landscapes, and everyday scenes that reflect his deep curiosity and ongoing journey as a lifelong artist. His work draws inspiration from vintage black-and-white family photographs, allowing him to reimagine color and detail, as well as from his explorations in plein air painting.

“I’ve always been drawn to the challenge of making art,” Baird said. “Whether working from old photographs or painting outdoors, it’s about finding my own way of seeing and expressing the world.”

Visitors to the opening reception will have the opportunity to meet the artist and enjoy light refreshments. The exhibition will remain on view through Sept. 30, with gallery hours Monday–Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

This exhibition is part of POAC’s monthly First Friday series, which showcases the work of local and regional artists while creating vibrant opportunities for community connection.

The Pend Oreille Arts Council exists to facilitate quality experiences in the arts through educational programs and presentations that benefit the people of North Idaho.
