PREP GOLF: Sandpoint competes in dual with Moscow
MAX OSWALD | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 11 months, 2 weeks AGO
I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | September 4, 2025 3:30 PM
MOSCOW — In order to gain familiarity with the University of Idaho Golf Course, where the Sandpoint High golf team will compete this Monday at the Moscow Invite and later in the season at the 5A Inland Empire League District Championship, the Bulldogs dueled Moscow Wednesday at the location in preparation for what's ahead.
For the boys, senior Tyler Weisz carded a 13-over-par 85 and was second out of 12 golfers to lead the way for Sandpoint, which finished 14 strokes shy of the Bears. Junior Landon Day shot a 87, senior Logan Roos a 92 and senior Cooper Zimmerman a 94 to give the Bulldogs a total team score of 358.
For the girls, freshman Evey Walker tallied a 106 to finish fifth out of 12 total golfers. Grace Loutzenhiser recorded a 111, Hannah Majors a 112 and Cadence Skibitsky a 115 to give the Lady Bulldogs a total team score of 444, 42 strokes short of the Lady Bears.
Sandpoint High head coach Mike Deprez said the experience helped his teams gain first-hand knowledge of the course's layout, speed of greens and challenges while they developed insights on the best strategies for each hole.
