POST FALLS — As the temperatures climbed to the triple digits, both Timberlake and Coeur d’Alene Charter did what was needed to get through the Intermountain League match.
Charter did just one more thing.
Sierra Sheppard scored on an assist from Reagan Meine in the 32nd minute for the Panthers, who beat the Tigers 1-0 at The Fields on Wednesday.
The game, originally scheduled for 4 p.m., was pushed back to 5 p.m., due to high temperatures. It was 98 degrees at kickoff. The boys match, scheduled for 6, was moved back to 7.
“It was hot, smoky and on turf, it wasn’t our best performance,” Coeur d’Alene Charter coach Stacy Smith said. “But it was enough and sometimes that is all you can ask for. Probably the thing I was most pleased about what that we were able to weather the storm after missing several opportunities in the first half. Finally putting one in the back of the net before half gave us a little boost.”
Coeur d’Alene Charter (2-0, 2-0 IML) travels to Bonners Ferry next Tuesday.
Timberlake (1-3, 1-2) travels to Lakeland on Saturday.
“Timberlake brought the pressure, and we were able to change our formation and personnel to make it work,” Smith said. “I’m happy with the result, but we still have a little work to do.”
