PREP VOLLEYBALL: Clark Fork pulls off sweep of Coeur du Christ
MAX OSWALD | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 11 months, 2 weeks AGO
I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | September 4, 2025 10:45 PM
Clark Fork 3, Coeur du Christ 0
CLARK FORK — After suffering a pair of five-set league losses in two of their first three matches to start the season, Clark Fork rebounded in a big way.
Freshman Kiylah Anderson had a team-high 18 assists, eight digs and seven aces, senior Aurora Lane recorded five aces of her own and a team-high seven kills and the Lady Cats downed the Saints in straight sets (25-21, 25-16, 25-22) for their first win of the year in a non-league match held Thursday night at Clark Fork High.
It was Clark Fork's first win in recorded history over Coeur du Christ, which is in their second year as an official Idaho High School Activities Association program. Head coach Lynsdie Kiebert-Carey said it felt sweet to get back into the win column, especially against a solid program with some good hitters.
"For them (Coeur du Christ) a ball is really never down until it's down; you have to adjust your gameplan to be prepared for absolutely anything, and that's always true, but especially against a scrappy team like that," coach Kiebert-Carey said. "Our girls really buckled down. For as hard as they've worked, especially in their two five-set matches leading up to this... it can be easy to check out, but none of these girls are like that."
Freshman Vanessa Rogier collected seven digs, five kills and four aces, two straight to end a close final set, while junior Nora-Jean Hoy had six digs and four kills in the winning effort. Senior Piper Scarlett recorded six digs and three kills and senior Azlyn Anderson served up three aces, two of which came to end a back-and-forth first set.
"Azlyn did a good job going in and serving under pressure tonight," coach Kiebert-Carey noted. "Her and Elyssa (Raynor) are sharing that defensive specialist spot; they both bring different skills to the game and are really coachable and willing to be called on whenever needed."
Coach Kiebert-Carey said Scarlett's three kills came at crucial moments for her team, which kept their composure despite the Saints leading at some point mid-way through every set.
"I felt like Piper did a good job adjusting tonight," coach Kiebert-Carey said. "She's doing some of things we've been talking about to make her attack more effective."
Clark Fork (1-3) will look to keep things rolling Friday when they host Bonners Ferry for another non-league affair.
Coeur d'Alene 3, Sandpoint 0
COEUR d'ALENE — Senior Belen Gonzales and junior Marlee Lane each had seven kills as the Lady Bulldogs were swept by the Lady Vikings (25-20, 25-17, 25-10) in a 6A/5A Inland Empire League game held Thursday night at Coeur d'Alene High.
Senior Gretta Beck led the way defensively with a team-high 13 digs while sophomore Carlee Klippel and senior Hazel Pierce blocked two hits each for Sandpoint (1-5), which returns to action Tuesday for another 6A/5A Inland Empire League match at Lake City.
Kellogg 3, Priest River 0
PRIEST RIVER — Junior Raygn Turner posted a team-high 10 kills, senior McKinley Burgess-Duquette added six kills and a team-high four aces as the Lady Spartans were swept by the Lady Wildcats (28-26, 25-19, 25-22) in a 3A Central Idaho League match held Thursday night at Priest River High.
Senior Jayda Storro was putting up sets left and right, tallying a team-high 22 assists for her fourth straight 20-plus outing of the season.
Defensively, senior Aleigha Jensen contributed a team-high four blocks and junior Callie Stanger produced a team-high 13 digs, with Turner chipping in 10 digs of her own.
"Raygn worked hard in the corners of the court, sacrificing her body," Priest River High head coach Katlyn Ward said. "Many girls were putting in work in all different spots of the court."
Priest River (3-1) will look to get back on track Saturday afternoon when they travel to Timberlake for a non-league game.
