The Polson girls cross country team saw strong running from freshman Quinn Delaney, whose breakout performance came against a field stacked with runners from across western Montana and northern Idaho.
Delaney raced to fifth place overall in 19 minutes, 33 seconds. The time marked a personal best for the Polson newcomer and placed her among the meet’s top finishers, just a step behind Libby’s Capri Farmer and only 54 seconds back of winner Lauren Bissen of Glacier.
Polson also benefited from sophomore Kimora Scott’s consistency. Scott clocked 21:09 to secure 18th place, giving the Pirates two athletes inside the top 20. Eighth-grader Taryn Cochran continued the theme of youth contributions, running 23:22 to take 47th in her varsity debut.
The Pirates’ depth showed in the middle of the pack, where sophomore Reese Adams ran 23:42, senior Brittian Davis finished in 24:05, and freshman Amaya Shizuku crossed in 26:27.
Glacier, Post Falls, and Timberlake placed multiple runners near the front, underscoring the strength of the competition.
On the boys side, Polson senior David DiGiallonardo opened his 2025 cross country season with a statement race Friday at the Libby Invitational, finishing second overall against a deep field.
DiGiallonardo crossed the line in 15 minutes, 55 seconds, trailing only Class AA Glacier’s Owen Thiel, who set the pace in 15:34. The Polson senior’s time was a personal record and placed him comfortably ahead of Timberlake’s Caleb Royce, who took third in 16:09.
Polson also saw strong support further down the lineup. Sophomore Wyatt Boogerd clocked 18:45 to place 53rd, while junior Christopher Sopke wasn’t far behind in 19:25, good for 67th.
