KSD expands free meal program to all schools, students

KELLOGG – The Kellogg School District (KSD) is proud to announce that all district schools are now participating in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) grant, ensuring every student receives free breakfast and lunch daily. 

Previously, only Pinehurst Elementary and Kellogg Middle School were covered under the CEP program. As of today, Canyon Elementary and Kellogg High School have joined the initiative, meaning all students enrolled in the district now have access to free meals, regardless of family income. 

“This is a huge step forward in supporting our students and families,” said Superintendent Lance Pearson. “We are thrilled that no child in our district will have to worry about affording school meals.” 

The schools now included under the CEP program are Canyon Elementary, Pinehurst Elementary, Kellogg Middle School, and Kellogg High School. 

No applications are required for students to receive meals, and no student pays for breakfast or lunch.

Every student eats for free. 

Pearson was especially complimentary of the district’s Food Services Director, Leah Figueroa, for her leadership in making this expansion possible.  

“Leah has championed this effort and worked diligently to make sure our students have the fuel they need to succeed,” Pearson added. 

Under the CEP program, all students at KSD schools now receive breakfast and lunch at no cost. These meals are provided automatically, with no paperwork or income verification required. 

However, the CEP program does not cover extra items, sometimes referred to as “à la carte.” These items remain available for purchase and include milk when purchased separately, second servings, bottled drinks, snacks such as chips and cookies, and ice cream or other specialty items. 

For students, this expansion means they no longer need to bring money for daily breakfast or lunch. There is no need to submit free or reduced meal applications, and every student receives the same meals with no distinctions.
