RATHDRUM — They went “overtime” in all three sets before the host Lakeland Hawks prevailed over the Lake City Timberwolves on Thursday night.

In a match where all three sets went past the usual ending of 25 points, senior Alyssa Ryckman had 11 kills as Lakeland outlasted Lake City 26-24, 27-25, 29-27 at Hawk Court.

Jaeli Hoffman had 13 assists, Kindell Day 10 assists and five aces for 5A Lakeland (1-2), which opened with three matches vs. 6A squads. Chloe Neff had 12 digs, Emma Beaty 11 for the Hawks, and Raygen Dutton had five blocks.

“It was a battle tonight, but we kept fighting and never gave up,” Lakeland coach Kelsie Badger said. “Kindell had a standout performance on the serving line. Raygen was a force at the net, and Alyssa led the team both offensively and defensively. A complete team effort helped us control the match from start to finish.”

Junior Camryn Woodman had 10 kills and three aces for Lake City (1-2). Kate Moglia added 12 assists and four kills, Macey Yancey six kills.

“We let some opportunities slip through the cracks, which stings, but collectively there was some great volleyball on both sets of the net,” Lake City coach Michelle Kleinberg said. “Each game was tight from start to finish. We’re keeping our heads up and trusting the process. I can’t speak highly enough of my team and how hard they are working. The reward will come and until then, we’ll keep grinding away.”

Lake City travels to Mt. Spokane on Saturday.

Lakeland plays host to Lewiston on Tuesday in the 5A Inland Empire League opener.

“Credit to Sandpoint, they came out aggressive from the service line and put us under pressure early,” Coeur d’Alene coach Carly Curtis said. “But I am proud of how our team stayed composed, made adjustments and turned the momentum. Our middles worked hard on closing the block and putting consistent pressure on their hitters. Overall it was a well-rounded team win.”
