Glacier's Bissen, Thiel fastest at Flathead Invite

While Bozeman High’s teams were tough to beat, nobody was catching Glacier’s Owen Thiel and Lauren Bissen, who won the individual titles at the Flathead Invitational cross country meet Friday.
Bozeman swept the team titles at the meet, which brought 18 boys and 25 girls teams to Rebecca Farm outside Kalispell. The Hawk girls won with 47 points, well ahead of Helena High (91) and Glacier (114). Flathead was sixth at 259.
The Bozeman boys had 45 points to 105 for Missoula Hellgate, 137 for Helena High and 143 for Glacier. Flathead’s boys were fifth at 166.
Meanwhile Thiel and Bissen set personal records.
Bissen, a junior, won the girls title in 18 minutes, 12.85 seconds, well ahead of freshman teammate Ada Thiel (18:22.08). Bozeman’s Kylee Neil and Phoebe Maixner led a 3-4-8-12-20 Bozeman finish.
Among the top 25 girls were Libby’s Capri Farmer (ninth, 19:33.97), Polson’s Quinn Delaney (10th, 19:45.11), Glacier’s Dacie Benkleman (15th, 20:14.15) and Flathead’s Everett Holland (16th, 20.18.95). Emery Eash of Flathead was 16th (20:20.69).
Bigfork’s Taylor Wenz was just outside the top 25, finishing in 20:49.48.
Columbia Falls, led by Findley Dezzani (31st, 21:10.09), was the top Class A girls team, finishing seventh with 168 points.
Owen Thiel’s time was 15:06.4, way under his previous PR of 15:31.8 set in 2024. The Wolfpack senior held off Bozeman’s Miles Halvorsen, who was a tight second at 15:07:16; Halvorsen led a 2-3-4 Hawks finish with Taylor Neil (15:12.00) and Christian Landers (15:37.22).
Among the top 25 boys were Polson senior David DiGiallonardo, who was seventh at 15:58.88, and Plains’ John Jermyn, 11th at 16:09.50.
Jude Sparkman of Glacier was 14th (16:19.66), and Flathead’s Carson Thorne (16:28:34) and Brodyn DeShaw (16:30.46) finished 19th and 21st.
Corvallis and Columbia Falls finished seventh and eighth and were the top two Class A teams. River Blazejewski was Columbia Falls’ top finisher, at 29th (16:46.21).
