WEISER — Jaron Yager scored on a touchdown pass from Peyton Hillman in the fourth quarter for the visiting Lakeland Hawks in a 24-9 win over the Weiser Wolverines on Friday.
“We moved the ball really well, but had trouble getting it into the endzone,” Lakeland coach Mike Schroeder said. “We threw an interception on the first drive and turned it over on downs on another. We moved the ball well, but just couldn’t take advantage.”
Griffin Tamagni scored on a touchdown run and Hillman scored on a quarterback run for Lakeland (3-0), which hosts West Valley of Yakima, Wash., next Friday.
“We really struggled to get off the field and they held the ball on us quite a bit,” Schroeder said. “Traveling to Weiser, it’s a six to seven hour bus ride and (Weiser coach) Tom Harrison, he knows what he’s doing.”
Weiser is 0-2.

SPIRIT LAKE — The visiting Eagles of Millwood, who started out 11-0 last year and reached the state 2A quarterfinals in Washington, jumped out to a 27-0 lead after one quarter in the nonleague win over the Tigers at Van Tuinstra Memorial Field.
“They lost some really legit guys, but it’s a football program; they reloaded with some good football players,” Timberlake coach Kelly Amos said of West Valley. “To be honest, they were bigger, faster and stronger than us.”
West Valley had just a 278-241 advantage in total yards. But ...
"They lived on our side of the field pretty much the entire game,” Amos said. “And every time we had the ball we had to drive 80 yards. They had just a huge field position advantage on us. We were OK at moving the football, but we could not stop them. And we had some very untimely and not smart penalties that put ourselves in a hole.”
Billy Vallieres caught a touchdown pass from Ryker Brennan in the third quarter for the lone score for Timberlake (0-3), which plays host to McCall-Donnelly next Friday.
