The Columbia Falls football team had a rough go on the road against Frenchtown last week, losing 37-6.
The Wildcats had a tough time finding the end zone and Frenchtown’s Michael Rummel threw for 202 yards and four touchdowns while Cole Johnson rushed for 143 yards.
“They kind of came out and punched us in the mouth and we never really recovered,” coach Kelly Houle said.
The Cats also made too many mistakes. They’d get a drive going and then have an untimely penalty. Four good runs were called back on penalties, Houle said.
The good news is all of this is fixable, Houle said. They can fix the holding and other mistakes. The Cats had seven penalties for 82 yards,
“We’ll make some adjustments,” he said.
Wildcat quarterback Banyan Johnston was 7 of 19 passing for 150 yards. He ran four times for 13 yards and scored his team’s lone touchdown on a 3-yard run late in the game.
The Cats had some big passes — 45 yards to Easton Brooks, 47 to Gabe Plevel. Trip Ross managed 34 yards on nine carries, and Kris Davis had three rushes for 22 yards. All told they had 91 yards rushing.
But they just couldn’t turn the gains into points,
The Cats will look to right the ship at home Friday as they face non-conference foe East Helena who is 1-1 and coming off a win over Dillon.
It will be good to have a home game after two weeks on the road. Game time is 7 p.m.
