Readers ranging from babies to great-grandparents made Whitefish Community Library’s “Relax and Unwind” summer reading challenge a great success. In total, 441 participants read throughout the summer to win prizes and to earn donations for a local nonprofit.

For the fifth year, Whitefish Credit Union supported the challenge with a donation of $1 for every row readers completed on their reading log.  All the readers combined to earn a record $2,850 for the Miracle League - a free, summer baseball program for children and adults with a special need or disability of any kind or severity. Additionally, 40 readers won prizes generously donated by local businesses.

“So many businesses in the valley were generous this year,” said Gina Schiff, youth services librarian. “We can’t thank them enough for supporting literacy for youth in the summer.”

The extensive list of donors can be found on the library’s website, whitefishlibrary.org.

The summer program ended with a celebratory ice cream party in the Depot Park gazebo, with ice cream and fixings donated by Safeway.
