Milton lights up Polson Bay with 10-under round

Polson sophomore Max Milton delivered one of the most memorable rounds in recent Montana prep golf history on Monday, firing a 10-under-par 62 at Polson Bay Golf Course to capture medalist honors at the Polson Invitational.

Milton’s round featured a blistering 29 on the back nine. After playing even-par through six holes, he caught fire, reeling off six straight birdies from holes 7 through 12. He then eagled the par-4 13th before adding one more birdie on 16. He finished his round with pars on 17 and 18, winning by six shots over Corvallis’s Brady Powell, who carded a 68. Whitefish’s Aiden Rickels was third at 70.

Milton’s performance also paced the Pirates to a runner-up team finish at 299, just five strokes behind Corvallis’s winning 294. Carson Emerson (77) and Cash Brown (78) joined Milton in the top 15, giving Polson three golfers near the top of the leaderboard.

Ronan had two golfers make noise in the standings. Kolby Finley shot a 78 to tie for 12th, while teammate Oliver Rowe finished close behind with a 79, good for a tie at 15th.

On the girls’ side, Polson’s Johanna Bieber cracked the top 10 with a 97. Fellow Pirate Harlie Fischer shot a 99, finishing in a tie for 13th.

Whitefish, led by co-medalist Karlee Brown (77), won the girls’ team title with a 358. Polson’s girls placed fifth overall at 414, while Ronan competed without a full team.
