Pirates soccer notches back-to-back wins with offensive surge

Polson boys soccer bounced back from a season-opening loss with a pair of convincing victories this week, defeating Stevensville 4-1 on Tuesday and shutting out Thompson Falls/Plains 6-0 on Thursday.

Against Stevensville, the Pirates wasted no time setting the tone with a balanced scoring attack. Roman Sawyer opened the scoring off a feed from Cruz Lies before Miles Russell doubled the lead. Afton Hatch and Jackson Bontadelli added goals to put Polson firmly in control by halftime. Bontadelli also chipped in an assist, while Sawyer returned the favor with a helper on Polson’s fourth strike.

While the Yellowjackets managed one goal after the break, Pirate goalkeeper Maddox Bird anchored the defense with 10 saves to preserve the win. Polson outshot Stevensville 13-10 and kept steady pressure on the attacking third.

Two days later, Polson put on a first-half clinic against Thompson Falls/Plains, exploding for five goals in the opening 22 minutes. Hatch started the onslaught just three minutes in, followed quickly by Sawyer, Edgar Vejez-Pete, and Bontadelli, who each capitalized on sharp passing sequences. Sawyer’s second goal, set up by Dion Lichtenberg, capped the early barrage.

Bontadelli added another tally in the second half to finish with a goal and an assist, while Lies, Lichtenberg, and Isaac Kinnick also earned assists. Polson tallied 19 shots and forced eight saves from Hawks keeper Jacob Howell. Bird and Zephyr Sternick split time in goal for the Pirates, combining for a clean sheet.

With the two victories, Polson improved to 2-1 on the season.
