“Twelfth Night” is a fast-paced, witty romp that explores love, identity, and what happens when everything and everyone is not quite what they seem. The story begins with Viola, a young woman shipwrecked and separated from her twin brother Sebastian. Disguising herself as a man to survive, Viola enters the service of Duke Orsino, only to fall in love with him. Meanwhile, Orsino sends Viola — now “Cesario" — to woo the Countess Olivia on his behalf. But Olivia becomes smitten with Cesario, setting off a chain of comic misunderstandings, love triangles, and chaotic romance that only Shakespeare could dream up. Confused? So are they! And that’s what makes the show so entertaining.
Shakespeare wrote “Twelfth Night” in 1601 for pure entertainment value at the Twelfth Night festival with music, merriment and role reversals. More than 400 years later, Twelfth Night continues to hit home with messages about love, identity, and the masks we wear.
“Set in the Renaissance makes this play one that focuses on costumes and words,” said Director Ivanna Fritz. “The kids have really stepped up to the challenge and have learned how to understand Shakespeare's nuances.”
“Twelfth Night” celebrates its comedic roots with witty banter and physical humor while exploring timeless core questions about identity and the true nature of love. Shakespeare reminds us that love can be messy, one-sided, confusing, and wonderful all at once. And sometimes, it takes going through the wrong love to find the right one.
“This is a fun show for all who want to sit back and have a few laughs. It is a romantic comedy of disguises and miscommunication,” said Fritz. “The students actually requested it. It was scheduled during the seniors' freshman year, but due to circumstances, we had to switch. They have requested it every year since.
The 25 students who make up the cast and crew of this production have been hard at work on this production since the audition process that started in the middle of August.
“I love the first show because the kids come with such enthusiasm and energy! They are all excited to start a new year and season in the Wolfpack Theatre,” said Fritz. “And, we have all four grades represented! This cast is unique because a group of seniors all started their freshman year in Intro to Acting together. This is a full journey moment for them.”
The cast of “Twelfth Night” includes: Autumn Bashara, Zach Nases, Brett, Tregan Blades, Megan Mikelson, Grace Miller, Sophie Johnson, Sophya Allred, Kaylin Stein, Bosley Wakefield, Lincoln Schumard, Eli Sanderson Strutz, Isabelle McKoy, Trevor Hammer, Josh Chandler and Andrea Dorsett
Behind the scenes, Abigail Haley, Naemi Creighton, Parker Scherer, Hilda Weber, Christina Eddins, Layla Pate, Fenyx Colby, Chloe Franklin and Lillie Groom make up the sound, lighting and stage crew.
