WALLACE – A Silver Valley woman accused of child abuse pleaded not guilty to all charges Monday in the Shoshone County Courthouse.

Sage Bryant, 24, faces four counts of felony injury to a child, five counts of misdemeanor injury to a child, and one count of misdemeanor assault. Law enforcement previously described the case as “one of the most unsettling cases of child abuse in recent memory.”

Anthony Banker, 38, was also arrested in connection with the case. He is charged with three counts of felony injury to a child, two counts of compounding a crime, and one count of misdemeanor injury to a child.

Bryant was arrested in early June after Kellogg Police learned that a child from Kellogg was in a medically induced coma at Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, suffering from multiple brain bleeds. Believing the case fell under their jurisdiction, KPD requested Spokane Police conduct initial interviews. The Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office later joined the investigation after discovering much of the abuse occurred in a remote part of the county, at Banker’s Prichard home.

According to police reports, Bryant told police and medical staff the victim, her son, had previously fainted and collapsed after a bath at Banker’s residence on Friday, May 16. Law enforcement later found evidence that the child had multiple dizzy spells over the weekend before Bryant took him to the hospital on Monday, May 19, believing he had a seizure. He was stabilized at Shoshone Medical Center and transferred to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane. Medical staff became increasingly concerned after finding extensive bruising on the child.

During interviews, Bryant and Banker said they were not romantically involved, describing their relationship as sibling-like. According to Shoshone County Sheriff’s Lt. Jared Bilaski, Bryant said they bonded over shared parenting beliefs.

Court documents show investigators uncovered cellphone videos depicting abuse, along with text messages between Bryant and Banker discussing the abuse and coordinating their stories before speaking with police.

Following her arrest, Bryant was also charged with two counts of compounding a crime. On Monday, Shoshone County Deputy Prosecutor Britney Jacobs dismissed those charges.

Felony injury to a child carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison. Misdemeanor injury to a child is punishable by up to six months, and misdemeanor assault carries a maximum 90-day jail sentence.

The case is scheduled to go to trial before a jury next March. Bryant remains in custody.

The allegations stemmed from claims by Hodges’ granddaughter, who accused him of multiple assaults over a four-month period. Garcia’s complaint asserts the granddaughter fabricated the story to avoid punishment for unrelated misconduct.
