Libby sports roundup: Cross country's Watson, Farmer leads way

At Tuesday’ Eureka Invitational, Libby’s Cody Watson and Capri Farmer each scored wins for the Loggers.

Watson’s 17:30.29 led the way while junior Colter Anderson’s 19:39.87 was third. Junior Samuel Erickson was fifth in 19:46.69. The Loggers won the team event, beating Eureka, 24-33.

Troy sophomore Kai Brownell also broke 20 minutes and was seventh in 19:51.01.

In the girls event, Farmer’s 20:07.27 was first while teammate Alli Clemons was second in 22:22.61. Junior Hailey Misner was fourth and freshman Rylee Thompson was ninth.

Troy also put four runners in the top 10. Senior Jaylee Meyers was third in 24:17.82, freshman Daisy Williams was fifth, senior Jenika Meyer was seventh and eighth-grader Elizah Kreutzer was 10th.

Saturday, the Loggers traveled to the Browning Invite. Watson was third in 17:10.37. Erickson was 24th in 19:59.29. The Loggers were fifth in the team race.

Browning senior River Racine was first in 16:37.68.

For the girls, Misner was 15th. The Loggers were last in the five-team field.

Libby will compete in the Mountain West Invite Saturday at Missoula.

FOOTBALL

Hamilton 40, Libby 0 

HAMILTON — Cooper Weston ran for one touchdown and threw for three scores for the Southwest A Broncs in their non-league win Friday over the Northwest A Loggers (2-1). 

Weston completed 23 of 34 passes for 289 yards for the Broncs (3-0) and Jude Widmer carried 11 times for 156 yards for Hamilton, including a 30-yard TD. 

Libby was held to 168 yards of offense and seven first downs. Bransen Holzer ran eight times for 26 yards and caught five passes for 89 yards for the Loggers. Boe Miles ran two times for 24 yards. Tristan Andersen was 7 of 19 passing for 89 yards with one interception.  

SOCCER

Whitefish boys 4, Libby 0 

LIBBY — Griffin Johnson and Jack Oehlerich each picked up two assists as the Whitefish boys downed Libby. 

Whitefish led 1-0 at halftime. The Bulldogs are 5-0 while the Loggers dropped to 1-2. Whitefish outshot Libby, 8-5, and had four corner kicks to Libby's two.

In net, junior JJ Fosgate made four saves for the hosts.

Libby returns to the pitch at 3 p.m. Thursday at Bigfork.

Whitefish girls 2, Libby 0 

Neva Sliman and Adelle Flynn scored as the Bulldogs blanked the Libby Loggers. 

The Bulldogs (5-1) outshot Libby (1-2) 25-1. Whitefish had 10 corner kicks while Libby had three. Loggers keeper Sarah Kosters had 22 saves. 

Libby returns to the pitch at 5 p.m. Thursday at Bigfork.
