Kiefer, a senior defender, was a key piece in the Hawks’ 1-0 win over Sandpoint on Sept. 9 — Lakeland's first win over the Bulldogs since 2006 — and a 5-0 win over Coeur d’Alene Charter in which Kiefer had a goal. “You don’t usually see defenders making headlines, but Karstyn isn’t your typical defender,” Lakeland coach Kevin Rogge said. “With a midfielder's mindset and a defender’s grit, she is shutting down attacks and starting plays. As our captain, she leads by example with her work ethic, composure and toughness. She has been a huge part of our success this year.”
