Charles Joseph Weisel, age 87, of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, peacefully passed away Sept. 5, 2025. Charles was born Aug. 1, 1938, in Floral Park, N.Y., to Charles Jacob Weisel and Helen Teller.
He grew up in Freeport, Long Island, N.Y., until 1956, when he graduated from Jesuit High School. He moved to California that year and attended Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, where he majored in Soil Science and graduated with a B.S. degree in 1960. He was in the U.S. Army, stationed at Fort Ord, Calif., from 1960 to 1962. In 1963, he accepted a position as a Soil Scientist with the USDA in Santa Clara County, Calif. In 1974, Charles was transferred to Coeur d’Alene to take the position of soil survey project leader for northern Idaho. He remained in that position until his retirement in 2001.
He met his wife, Welcolm, in San Jose, Calif., and they were married in 1964. Together they shared 61 years of marriage and raised five children. Charles was a devoted husband and father to his wife and to his children.
During his retirement, he enjoyed hiking, traveling and watching his grandchildren in their various school activities and sporting events.
Charles is survived by his wife, Welcolm; his sister, Mary Lou; his brother, Chris; his daughter, Mary (Dennis) Laughlin; his son, John (April); his daughter, Cathy; and his daughter, Julie (Monte) Meredith. His grandchildren are Laura and Nathan Laughlin, Parker and Spencer Weisel, and Varick and Braden Meredith. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, his sister, Helen Margaret, his son, James, and his grandson, Austin.
