Joseph P Tilton, 89, of Post Falls, Idaho, passed away peacefully June 21, 2025, with family holding his hands.

Joe grew up attending and graduating from parochial schools in Cherokee, Iowa, then enrolled at Drake University before joining the U.S. Army. After his military service, he attended Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Ill., earning both bachelor’s and master's degrees. His career took him to live in Chicago, Dayton, Ohio, and Palatine, Ill. After retiring in 1992, Joe and his wife, Barb, moved to Post Falls from Illinois to be closer to family.

Joe drove a bus for the Post Falls School District and mentored at his neighborhood elementary school. For 10 years, he served on the former Post Falls library board and tested for Idaho driver's licenses. He enjoyed puttering in his garden and workshop, reading, playing the ukulele and watching the local hummingbirds.

Joe was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Barbara, with whom he spent 65 years; his son, Andrew, and his daughter, Jane.

He was preceded in death by his son, Daniel, his parents, Mark and Mary Tilton and his six siblings.

Joe's goal was to live the most honorable life he could. Honoring his personal wishes, there will be no services.
