Sandpoint 7, Post Falls 0

SANDPOINT — Senior Huxley Hall registered two goals, senior Caiden Gion scored his first goal of the season and the Bulldogs blanked the Trojans Tuesday night in a 5A Inland Empire League game held at War Memorial Field.

After a shot by sophomore Dixon Reed went of the left post during the 29th minute, Hall was there on the rebound to put Sandpoint on the board. Three minutes later, sophomore exchange student Alvaro Santos, off a pass from Hall, dribbled past a couple of defenders and put a close-range shot into the bottom right corner of the net for the 2-0 advantage. Senior Logan McGrann then curled a corner kick into the bottom right corner of the net for a three-goal lead heading into intermission.

In the second half, Hall, after a battle in the box by freshman Wesley Drube, cleaned up another ball during the 49th minute to move the score to 4-0. Five minutes later, sophomore Pax Longanecker, making his way up the right side of the field, scored on a shot to the bottom left-hand corner of the net after a pass from Reed. Gion then stepped up in the box during the 57th minute to head in a Jack Treman corner kick to make it a 6-0 game. To cap things off, junior Knox Williams drew the opposing goalie out of the box, which led to a wide-open goal by senior Asher Hazan during the 75th minute.

Sandpoint had 15 corners compared to Post Falls' two in the victory.

"Happy with the performance," Sandpoint High head coach Dan Anderson said. "Everyone who came onto the field added to the game and contributed. We were happy to be able to get back to our winning ways after a disappointing performance against Lewiston."

Junior goalkeeper Landon Brinkmeier had one save and his fourth shutout of the year for Sandpoint (7-2-1), which ended an 8-game homestand with the win and travels to Coeur d'Alene on Saturday for a 6A/5A Inland Empire League showdown. They're looking to get revenge after falling to the Vikings by a score of 2-1 earlier this year.

Barnes' hat trick helps Lady Bulldogs prevail

SANDPOINT — Senior Hope Barnes recorded a hat trick, junior goalkeeper Izzy Stark recorded one save and her second shutout of the season as the Lady Bulldogs downed the Lady Trojans in a 5A Inland Empire League match held Tuesday at Post Falls High.

Senior Elia Howard also scored, as did junior Vivian Haag, who scored her first career varsity goal in the winning effort for Sandpoint, which outshot Post Falls 13-1.

"We looked good at times," Sandpoint High head coach Alan Brinkmeier said. "Some of our forwards found the back of the net, and hopefully that builds some confidence leading into the next couple of weeks."

Sandpoint (2-6-1), which fell to Mt. Spokane 6-0 on Friday and Lewiston 4-2 on Saturday, travels to Mead this Friday for their final non-league game of the regular season.
