POST FALLS — Spuddy Buddy Ambassadors have taken on historical personas as part of the America250 celebrations in Idaho and will be visiting Post Falls this weekend.
The traveling tots will be making appearances from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at the Post Falls American Legion Post 143 and from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the Idaho State Veterans Home.
JD Darakjy of the Idaho State Treasurer’s Office said the Spuddy Buddy Ambassadors taking on the whimsical nature of Revolutionary War figures first came about during an event commemorating the 250th anniversary of Paul Revere’s ride.
Because the treasurer’s office was unable to use a Paul Revere look-alike, Idaho State Treasurer Julie Ellsworth decided to dress up the Idaho Potato Commission mascot, Spuddy Buddy, as Paul Revere instead.
The result was a resounding hit.
“People liked them so much, she kept making more and more and now there’s 13 of them,” Darakjy said.
With the America250 tour taking place across Idaho, Darakjy said it’s exciting to announce that George Washingtator and Betsy Tots will be making spud-shaped appearances in Post Falls.
“We also bring around a Declaration of Independence replica and we're trying to get as many people to sign it as possible. We have thousands of signatures so far,” Darakjy said.
Signatures will be gathered statewide and will be digitally etched onto a commemorative copy of the Declaration of Independence, which will proudly hang in the Idaho State Capitol.
“I’m pretty sure all of the members of the Legislature signed it, all of the Democrats and Republicans signed it since it’s totally nonpartisan,” Darakjy said.
