RATHDRUM — The Sandpoint Special Olympics team competed against opponents from Moscow, the Silver Valley, Coeur d'Alene and Bonners Ferry at the North Fall Regionals bocce ball tournament held this past Saturday at Majestic Park.
In Division VI, Lukas Birdsell and Kyle Horowitz of team "Bocce Barracudas," were undefeated and placed first. Also going undefeated were Caitlin Bayles and Chelsea Dennis, the "Bonner Bocce Bellas," in Division IX.
John Painter and Bob Leichtman, the "Bocce Bandits" placed second in Division II. Hayley Thompson and Laura Cromwell, the "Rolling Rockettes," finished second in Division V.
The tournament, which was originally scheduled for Sept. 6 but rescheduled due to poor air quality, was a volunteer-run event, with the local Coeur d'Alene Special Olympics program coordinator heading it up.
The Sandpoint Special Olympics team will transition to bowling, with their next competition, Northern Bowling Regionals, set to be held Saturday, Nov. 8, at Sunset Bowling Center in Coeur d'Alene.
