Spikers have a great week as young team plays well

The Columbia Falls volleyball team had a good week, beating Libby on the road in three games and then splitting a doubleheader against Corvallis and Hamilton at home Saturday.

The Wildkats beat Corvallis in three, 25-15, 25-22, 25-5, but lost to Hamilton  in four, 25-22,23-25,22-25 and 20-25.

The Libby game scores were not available, but highlights included Rylee Sweeney with 13 kills and three aces, Jezanie Brooks had 21 assists and Alizabeth Hansen had four aces. Kamryn Ladenburg had six kills and Annabelle Middlesworth and Ladenburg had two blocks apiece.

Against Corvallis, Brooks had 20 assists and 14 digs, while Ava Scholz had 21 digs.

Sweeney, Ashlyn Dunham and Gabby Riley had five kills apiece.

In the Hamilton match, the girls had 89 digs and 32 kills. 

Brooks had 27 assists, while Sweeney and Dunham had nine and eight kills respectively.

Scholz had 29 digs, while Brooks had 17 and Hansen had 15.

Louisa Miller had 13 digs.

“Our best match was the Hamilton one! I am very encouraged how this young team is starting their season,” coach Jolandie Brooks said. “They’re fast learners and fun to coach. Our defense against Hamilton was incredible. I thought we served tough and consistent against them as well. We have to work on our offensive shots against a big block, but I expect good things from this team this season!”

The Wildkats traveled to Polson Tuesday after press time and host Browning Thursday at home.
