Ronan Council approves road closures for fall events

The Ronan City Council meeting on Sept. 9 had Mayor Chris Adler and council members querying Ronan Chamber of Commerce representative Whitney Legaikos about the theme for this year’s Trail of Bales. Legaikos told them the theme was “Bad to the Bale,” recognizing villains.
The Trail of Bales kicks off the harvest season in Ronan and culminates in the chamber’s Harvest Festival. Council members approved a road closure for the festival on Sept. 20 from First Ave. SW to Buchanan SW from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The council also approved:
Ronan Co-op Brewery’s application for an open container permit for Farm to Table dinner at Mission West Community Development Partners, 407 Main Street SW, 3-10 p.m. Sept. 18.
Ronan Co-op Brewery’s application for an open container permit and street closure for 4th Ave. SW from Main Street to the alley on Sept. 26 for an Octoberfest and anniversary event from 4-9 p.m.
Ronan High Principal Kevin Kenelty’s application for the closure of Main Street on Oct. 3 for the Homecoming Parade from 4-5:30 p.m.
In other business, council members approved Ronan Police Chief Rob Jacobson, acting on behalf of the Ronan Police Department, to enter into a five-year contract with Axon Enterprises for body cameras, evidence storage, etc.. Jacobson said Axon Enterprises is the “gold standard” for police needs.
The next Ronan City Council meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Sept. 24 at Ronan City Hall.

“Happy Birthday America” was the theme for Arlee’s Fourth of July parade, celebrating 250 years of the U.S.A. There were American flags billowing everywhere and red, white, and blue clothing was popular.
