Is there a more exciting way to start a home season of football? In a back-and-forth game, Bonners Ferry came out on top, beating Lakeside from Nine Mile Falls, Washington, 28-21. In the first half, the offense wasn't able to get going but the defense was steady and the Badgers trailed 14-6 at the half.
However, in the second half both the offense and defense for Bonners Ferry were terrific. The offense, led by Keenan Maas, came up with a number of big plays, finishing their day with a one-yard touchdown run followed by a two-point conversion to lead by seven points with 1:07 remaining.
The defense, which was brilliant all night, came up strong again to stop Lakeside. After a run by Lakeside's quarterback was stopped short of the end zone, the fireworks could begin. Bonners Ferry High School now has a 3-2 record and a 1-0 record at home.
