Absurdist comedy to benefit Art Spirit this weekend

The Art Spirit Gallery will host benefit performances of Steve Martin’s acclaimed absurdist comedy, "Picasso at the Lapin Agile," at 7:30 tonight and Saturday night.
Directed by Tracey Vaughan and sponsored by Alpha 3 Wealth Management, the performance will feature a cast of seven regional professional actors — Jayden Cornett, Chelsea Duval, Donivan Floyd, Thomas Gandy, Emma Hoyt, Duncan Clark Menzies and Elias Underhill.
This witty play imagines a fictional meeting between Pablo Picasso and Albert Einstein in a Paris café in 1904, blending intellectual banter with humor and philosophical insights. "Picasso at the Lapin Agile" makes for an engaging and entertaining evening that celebrates creativity, ideas and community spirit.
As challenging economic conditions impact many small businesses, Art Spirit is seeking support through a special fundraising event to help sustain its commitment to the arts and community. While the gallery continues to serve as a platform for regional artists and cultural expression, this event will help it meet the financial challenges it is facing. Proceeds will directly support the gallery’s ongoing operations, community outreach, arts programming and artist development.
“We believe the arts are essential to our community’s vitality,” Art Spirit owner Blair Williams said in an Aug. 17 news release. "This fundraiser will help us continue providing access to quality arts experiences, exhibitions and educational opportunities for years to come. We invite everyone to join us in supporting our mission and enjoying an evening of artistic fun.”
Attendees will also have the opportunity to view and purchase original works by Earnest Lothar, a contemporary of Picasso and a celebrated Cubist whose work is represented by the gallery. Authentic Picasso pieces currently on consignment at the Art Spirit Gallery are also available for view and purchase.
