COEUR d’ALENE — North Idaho College, ranked 20th in this week’s NJCAA poll, had its chances late, missing on a penalty kick in the final two minutes and falling to the Utah State-Eastern Eagles of Price, Utah, 2-1 in a Scenic West Athletic Conference match at Eisenwinter Field on Thursday.
“We just made two errors and two stupid plays,” NIC coach Brad Williams said. “We had our chances, but missed on the penalty kick.”
Freshman Sebastiano Casini scored four minutes into the match for NIC (6-3, 2-2 SWAC), which has lost two straight after opening conference play with wins over Pacific Northwest Christian and Truckee Meadows on the road.
Utah State-Eastern is 3-1-2, 2-1-1.
NIC hosts No. 7 Snow (6-1, 4-0) of Ephraim, Utah, on Saturday.

COEUR d’ALENE — Sophomore McKenzie White scored on an assist from sophomore Amy Smith in the 67th minute to draw the Cardinals within one goal, but NIC was unable to score the equalizer in a Scenic West Athletic Conference loss to the Eagles of Price, Utah, at Eisenwinter Field.
Utah State-Eastern's Emmalee Christensen opened the scoring 54 seconds into the match, one of three first-half goals by the Eagles.
“We got out to a super slow start,” NIC coach Kellsi Parson said. “I haven’t seen that in a long time. We thought we were ready to go and we weren’t. Utah State-Eastern is good and capitalized on its chances.”
Freshman Madeline Cook scored 11 minutes into the second half for NIC, which was tied for first place in the SWAC with Salt Lake Community College entering Thursday. Salt Lake 5-0-2, 3-0-1) tied Southern Idaho 1-1.
“We gave ourselves an opportunity to get back into it, but just fell short,” Parson said. “Their keeper made some big saves and really kept them in the game early on.”
NIC (3-3-1, 3-1 SWAC) hosts No. 11 Snow (5-2, 3-1) of Ephraim, Utah., on Saturday.
Utah State-Eastern is 4-3, 2-2.
