PREP VOLLEYBALL: Lake City upsets Coeur d'Alene

COEUR d’ALENE — In the midst of a rugged start to the season, the Lake City Timberwolves gave themselves a reason to smile Thursday night.
Junior Camryn Woodman had 16 kills and five blocks, including the deciding kill on match point in the fifth set, as visiting Lake City upset the previously unbeaten Coeur d’Alene Vikings 12-25, 25-19, 18-25, 25-20, 15-13 in 6A Inland Empire League play at Viking Court.
“She only had two hitting errors all night,” Lake City coach Michelle Kleinberg said. “An absolutely incredible effort from her.”
Ella Jeanselme had 19 kills, four aces and 10 digs for Lake City (5-8, 1-1 6A IEL). Kate Moglia had 19 assists, seven kills and four blocks, Miranda FitzSimmons 26 assists and three kills.
“These girls have stayed committed to the process and resilient through some really tough moments, so more than anything, it’s rewarding that they get to celebrate this win as a culmination of several weeks of grit leading into this game,” Kleinberg said. “Coeur d’Alene is an incredibly talented team and it took every move in our playbook to contain their offense. I am sure it will be a battle again next week but for tonight, we’ll celebrate this one.”
For Coeur d’Alene (12-1, 1-1), Gianna Callari had 21 kills and seven blocks, Kaylee Paulson seven kills, 12 digs and four aces, Hannah Shafer 32 assists, 13 digs and three aces. Jovie Le eight blocks, Bridget Maiani 26 digs.
“We struggled to find our rhythm,” said Coeur d’Alene coach Carly Curtis, who added that Callari was also “a pretty steady presence defensively.
“We’ll use this match as a learning opportunity, and focus on coming back strong.”
Lake City travels to Lewiston on Saturday.
Coeur d’Alene visits Moscow on Monday, then plays at Lake City on Wednesday.

SANDPOINT — The visiting Hawks lost to the Bulldogs for the first time since Oct. 9, 2018, falling 25-21, 25-23, 25-20 in a 5A Inland Empire League match at Les Rogers Court.
Junior Jolie Warren had eight kills, junior Kindell Day 16 assists and two aces for Lakeland (3-4, 2-1 5A IEL).
“Sandpoint came out strong tonight and held the momentum from start to finish,” Lakeland coach Kelsie Badger said. “They played scrappy defense, and it felt like our attacks just couldn’t find the floor. Credit to them for playing a great game. For us, it’s a valuable learning moment as we move forward.”
Sophomore Reese Dutton had seven kills and six blocks, senior Chloe Neff 17 digs and freshman Jaeli Hoffman two aces for Lakeland (3-4, 2-1 5A IEL), which hosts Post Falls on Tuesday.
Sandpoint is 3-5, 1-1.

Lakeside
CLARK FORK — The visiting Knights, missing one of their top players, lost for the first time this season, falling to the Wampus Cats 25-22, 25-27, 25-22, 25-18 in Scenic Idaho Conference play.
Saydee Peone had nine kills, five digs and two aces for Lakeside (6-1, 3-1 SIC), which was without Kimberly Pluff due to illness. Tylah Lambert added nine kills, eight digs, 12 assists and two aces, Rayna Schatz six kills, six digs and three assists, Ambi Aldrich two blocks, Izzy Kee three assists, Allisue Hendrickx five digs.
"Tylah played with everything she had tonight," Lakeside coach Devyn Moore said. "Her attacks were aggressive, and I needed her in my back row this evening and she did great all around. Rayna and Saydee both took great swings and passed well tonight."
Lakeside plays host to Coeur du Christ on Tuesday.
Clark Fork is 5-4, 2-2.

WALLACE — Senior Kylee Phillips had eight kills, eight aces and four digs for the Miners in a 25-5, 25-6, 25-8 Scenic Idaho Conference win over the Jaguars at Kirby Krulitz Court.
Senior Aubrey Birdsell had 16 assists, four aces and three kills, senior Megan Hull seven kills, four digs, junior Kayden Stutzke 13 assists, four aces and three digs and senior Olivia Berry four aces and four digs for Wallace (7-2, 2-1 SIC), which hosts Kootenai on Monday.
Genesis Prep (0-7, 0-3) hosts Kootenai next Thursday at The Courts at Real Life in Post Falls.

HARRISON FLATS — The host Warriors took the opening set, but it was all Saints after that, as Coeur du Christ defeated Kootenai 23-25, 25-10, 25-14, 25-8 in North Star League play.
Senior Kate Clemens had 15 assists and 10 kills for Coeur du Christ (4-3, 3-0 North Star League). Maddie Junkin added 12 kills and 10 digs, Espi Klocko 20 digs and six aces, Therese Junkin five blocks.
For Kootenai (0-6, 0-3), senior Chloe Dorman had 12 digs and six blocks, Iva Hugo 11 service points, and Tyla Dittman 12 hits.
Kootenai travels to Wallace on Monday.
Coeur du Christ visits Lakeside on Tuesday.

WALLACE — Sophomore Caylee Crandall had three kills, sophomore Cambria Wilson seven assists and one kill for the Tigers (3-2) in a 18-25, 25-17, 19-17 win over the Miners JV at Kirby Krulitz Court.
Mullan hosts Clark Fork at the Mullan Pavilion tonight.
