Sandpoint Trailblazers podium 12 racers at Herron Hustle

KALISPELL, Mont. — The Sandpoint "Composite" Trailblazers cross country mountain biking team posted 12 top five finishes, including five first-places, at the Herron Hustle, their third race of the Montana Interscholastic Cycling League Series, held Saturday, Sept. 13, at Herron Park.

Nolan Tuohy (Seventh Grade Boys), Emiliana Dussault (Seventh Grade Girls), Theresa Hurt (Eighth Grade Girls), Iona Tuohy (JV2 Girls) and Levi Coffman (JV2 Boys) all grabbed gold in their respective classes for the Trailblazers.

“The racing and culture is really fun and it is exciting to be there," Coffman, a four-year racer, said. “Training more and believing in myself that I can do well in a race has helped me achieve my goals this season.”  

Trent Roberts was fifth in the varsity division for Sandpoint, which placed fifth out of 14 scoring teams.

The Trailblazers return to action today, Sept. 20, for the Copper Kings Clash at Big Butte Open Space Recreation Area in Silver Bow County, Mont.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: The course had a spectator friendly grassy equestrian park infield and a good mix of double track climbing with swoopy and smooth singletrack descents. The course was 3.2 miles long with 440 feet of climbing.
