MISSOULA — Junior Jack Lovin finished 45th out of 592 runners with a team-best time of 16 minutes, 41.59 seconds and the Bulldogs placed 12th out 78 teams at the Mountain West Classic held Saturday at the University of Montana Golf Course.

Sophomore Wyatt Lemon also cracked the top 50, finishing 48th with a new personal best time of 16 minutes, 43.62 seconds. Sophomore Kai Budensiek (51st, 16:46), sophomore Hobbes Conley (155th, 17:46) and senior Paul Kent (174th, 17:56) rounded out the top scorers for the Sandpoint boys, who scored 455 points in total — which ranked third among Idaho teams and was 254 points better than 5A Inland Empire League rival Moscow, which placed 25th.

Mead High of Spokane won the boys race with a team score of 110, one point ahead of Bozeman High. The individual winner was Bozeman's Miles Halvorsen, who won in 15 minutes, 17.2 seconds.

In the girls race, junior Elizabeth Storms ran to a season-best time of 20 minutes, 47.21 seconds to finish 75th out of 496 runners as the Lady Bulldogs clocked an impressive 15th-place finish out of 67 scoring teams. Sophomore Ruthie Laughridge was 87th in 20 minutes, 50.63 seconds while sophomore Delaney Barron (95th, 21:02) and sophomore Lillian Grant (139th, 21:34) both posted new personal best times in the No. 3 and No. 4 positions. Freshman Sophie Brubaker (213th, 22:33) rounded out the top scorers for the Sandpoint girls, who scored 582 points in total — which ranked second among Idaho teams and was 281 points better than 5A Inland Empire League rival Lakeland, which placed 31st. 

Bozeman High won the girls race with a team score of 67, 96 points ahead of runner-up Gallatin High. The individual winner was Addison Kegel of Billings Central Catholic, who won in 17 minutes, 33.03 seconds.

Sandpoint will be back in action Saturday at the Rivers Bend Golf Course for the Thompson Falls Invitational.

Gunkle, McLaimtaig run PR's at Can-Am

KETTLE FALLS — Junior Daniel Gunkle finished 23rd out of 81 runners with a new personal best time of 19 minutes, 2.9 seconds to lead the Spartans at the Can-Am Invitational held Saturday at the Old Kettle Falls Picnic Area near Lake Roosevelt. 

Freshman Tadhg McLaimtaig was sixth amongst freshman and 26th overall with a new personal best time of 19 minutes, 7.5 seconds.

For the girls, senior Capri White placed 22nd out of 73 runners with a new personal best time of 23 minutes, 13.6 seconds. Senior Kyla White added a 33rd-place finish with a time of 24 minutes, 10.5 seconds for the Lady Spartans, which placed ninth out of nine scoring teams. 

Priest River will head to the Lake Spokane Invite hosted by Lakeside High of Nine Mile Falls, Wash., this Saturday.
