PREP ROUNDUP: Wilson, Coeur d'Alene girls win at Sandpoint tourney

SANDPOINT — Coeur d’Alene sophomore Ella Wilson carded a 3-over-par 75 to earn medalist honors and lead the Viking girls to the team title at the Sandpoint Invitational on Monday at The Idaho Club. 

Coeur d’Alene shot a 330. Lakeland was second with a 410. 

Coeur d’Alene’s Kinsley Meier, playing as an individual, was second with a 79. 

“Our kids played awesome today on a really tough golf course,” Coeur d’Alene girls coach Jeff Lake said. “With a week to go before the postseason, we are looking to keep our momentum rolling and stay as sharp as possible as we head into districts.”

The 6A District 1 tournament is scheduled for Oct. 2 at Avondale Golf Club in Hayden Lake. 

For the boys, Tyler Zachary of Lakeland shot 75 and ended up in a four-man playoff for medalist honors, won by Logan Roos of Sandpoint with a birdie on the first playoff hole, the par-3 16th. 

Post Falls’ boys, led by Karl Berend’s 83, shot 331 and finished second, 17 strokes behind Lewiston.  

Hunter Paquin shot 77 to lead Coeur d’Alene, which finished fifth.

The schools were unable to find a makeup date that worked for both, so the match will not be rescheduled.

WALLACE — Junior Kayden Stutzke had 19 assists, seven aces and three digs as the Miners swept the Warriors 25-9, 25-3, 25-20 in nonleague play at Kirby Krulitz Court. 

Kylee Phillips added 10 kills and five digs for Wallace (8-2). Megan Hull had five kills, five aces and four digs, Olivia Berry three aces and six digs, Anna Rehnborg six aces and four digs. 

Kootenai (0-7) plays host to Mullan tonight at 6. 

Wallace travels to Clark Fork on Thursday.
