It was another hat-trick performance for Avi Schmautz.

The Glacier senior now has six goals against her former team as the Wolfpack girls took a 7-0 victory over Flathead at Legends Stadium Tuesday evening.

Brecken Evenson tallied twice for the Wolfpack boys, who also grabbed a 7-0 victory over the Braves.

Sophomore forward Gracie Winkler joined Schmautz on the scoresheet with a pair of goals.

“We have really stepped up our speed of play and our ability in the second half of the season,” defender Rachel Brannan said.

“I think we have got a bit of momentum, we have won our last four matches and we have climbed over .500 after, not a slow start, but a tough start,” Wolfpack coach Doug Mello said.

Addison Brisendine put the pack on the board first with a shot over Bravettes goalkeeper Hannah Bailey’s hands.

Brisendine added an assist on Schmautz’s first goal with a perfect cross as the Wolfpack went up 2-0.

Flathead wasn’t without their chances though. In the 22nd minute a shot fiound a way around Glacier keeper Aerin Todd, but Kylie Shine was there to clear it off the line.

Flathead had another big chance in the first half as Anna Chivers’ shot forced Todd into her first save of the game.

Winkler and Bailee Dahlman broke the game open in the 27th and 28th minutes as both found the net in quick succession to put Glacier ahead 4-0.

“Offensively, our goals were to be very unselfish,” Winkler said. “We have been working a lot on playing drop balls so that we can shoot it better and we have also been working on playing it steadily through the midfielders.”

Schmautz tallied her second goal just a few moments later and Glacier took a 5-0 lead at the half.

Out of the break, Glacier continued to score as Winkler’s second goal came just a minute into the half with an assist from Neve Travis.

Travis then combined with Schmautz to finish off her hat trick on a breakaway to seal the 7-0 victory.

Addy Schneider made six saves for the Bravettes after subbing in late in the first half.

Despite the scoreline, Flathead coach Cassie Congdon says her team has made strides this season.

“It’s the best we have played all season,” Congdon said. “It’s just really rewarding as a coach to watch them trust each other. Work on the sequences we have and not be panicked and not just play defense the whole time.”

The Wolfpack were in control from the start but had a difficult time breaking down Flathead early.

“First half we only scored two goals, which isn’t what we wanted, but second half we came out and put a lot more away,” Grant Lisowski said.

Alex Miller started in goal for the Braves and finished with four saves, including an early stop to keep the game scoreless.

The Wolfpack took advantage of a ninth minute corner to break the ice as Zander Schmautz got his head to Cole Pelucca’s cross and nodded it home.

“We have relied on each other a lot this season and it shows in this game, our possession was really high and we all looked to make that final pass, especially in the final third,” Pelucca said.

Flathead nearly answered immediately as Gavin Hammer found himself alone against Glacier goalkeeper Silas Young but his shot ended up going wide after Young got a palm to the ball.

Pelucca nearly made it 2-0 in the 15th minute, but his shot rolled just past the right side of the post.

Isaac Weaks found the back of the net not long after, rolling it past Miller on the right side.

Sullivan again had Flathead knocking on the door, but Tayton Hardman’s defensive header allowed Young to collect the ball before a Brave could put it home.

In the second half, Glacier found their footing. Grant Lisowski fired a bullet from outside the penalty area into the top of the goal as glacier took a 3-0 lead.

Evenson found his first of the game in the 69th minute as the Wolfpack added four goals in a five-minute stretch. Kyler Hardman followed with a goal on a penalty two minutes later.

Evenson assisted Nash Lisowski in the 72nd minute to make it 6-0, before Evanson finished off the night with an unassisted tally with seven minutes left.

Flathead coach John Lacey said that the scoreline may not show it, but his team played their best game of the season.

“We played organized, we stayed together,” Lacey said. “We created some chances, not tons, but we were up against a very good team. A lot of credit to Glacier, they made us work and hopefully we made them work a bit too.”

Flathead now travels to Butte on Saturday, the girls kick off at 10 a.m. with the boys slated for noon. Glacier hosts Missoula Big Sky with the boys at 11 a.m. and the girls to follow at 1 p.m.
