Favored Farmhouse expanding services

MOSES LAKE – The Favored Farmhouse coffee shop is expanding its services with plans for a new food truck court and a recurring night market.

“We’ve owned the farmhouse for about seven years and originally the plan was to just help propel other small businesses,” said Daphne Martinez, who owns Favored Farmhouse with her husband, Derek.

Martinez said the Favored Farmhouse’s addition of a food truck onto the premises last year, which has been housing several other small businesses over the years, inspired the business to expand upon that and create a space where they can house even more local businesses.

The shop recently purchased a neighboring lot which is where they plan to create their new food court. She said that this area is something she wants people to come and enjoy good company and good food without having to travel.

“It’s always been kind of our vision to make downtown a central place for everybody,” said Martinez. “We should be able to enjoy Moses Lake downtown and not have to go out to our surrounding areas.”

This food court is planned to feature a variety of local vendors from around town. The Favored Farmhouse is working closely with the city to ensure that everything being set up will be up to code and engineered to be safe for everyone involved, Martinez said.

The idea for the night markets takes inspiration from night markets in Portland, Ore., where it operates as an after-hours event. Martinez said these markets are designed to be a cozy and fun environment.

“I think it’ll be really fun to have a variety for date nights, get-togethers or sometimes you’re just bored on a Saturday night and you want to go get something to eat, and there’s not a lot of options,” she said.

Their night market is planned to operate similarly to that of the Farmers Market, but will be designed for those who are unable to attend a morning market due to scheduling conflicts.

“A lot of times those vendor markets are people who have created a side hustle doing something that they love, so everybody usually works a normal day job,” said Martinez. “I can’t usually get to a Saturday morning market, so I thought, why not bring an after-hours market where hopefully more people can come out and participate.”

Martinez said there will be a kickoff celebration for the first night market, scheduled for Oct. 18. This event will feature lights, music, fall decor, and, most importantly, food.

She said, depending on the weather conditions, there may be another night market set up for the following week, but going forward, the night markets would start back up in May and run every other weekend until October.

“I just hope that people who have dreams of owning their own small business or kicking off a small business come see us because we would love to help them propel that and give them a place where they can share all of the good things that they do,” said Martinez.

The Favored Farmhouse will be operating at regular hours during the expansion process.

ACH falls into consolation bracket in state softball tournament

YAKIMA — The Almira/Coulee-Hartline Warriors fell 5-8 in the quarterfinal bracket to the Colton Wildcats during the 1B State tournament. With this loss, the Warriors continue their state bid in the consolation bracket as they battle for a chance at third place. “We came out strong as we needed to, got three runs in that first inning, and we shut them down,” said Warriors head coach Faye Butler. “Then I think the nerves and all the excitement got to us, did a couple overthrows and they had a good rally on us.” The Warriors started off strong with the three runs in the bottom of the first inning to gain a substantial lead over their opponent. ACH maintained this lead until the third inning as Colton tied up the score with three runs of their own.
