Sierra, an off-price retailer for outdoor brands, will open its doors on Sep. 27 at the Mountain View Plaza in north Kalispell.
As part of the TJ Maxx family of brands, Sierra offers a wide array of apparel, shoes and gear at what the company says is a reduced price compared to full-price department and specialty stores.
The Kalispell location is the third Sierra in Montana, with other locations in Billings and Helena. The Kalispell store is located between Best Buy and The Home Depot.
There is an opening day event on Saturday, beginning at 8 a.m. with music from a local DJ, Sierra-branded giveaways and a hidden tag activity for shoppers to win a Sierra gift card.
The space, located at 2411 U.S. 93, is 23,000 square feet and they plan to hire 50 to 60 employees. Store hours will be Monday through Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
“We’re thrilled to open Sierra’s third location in the state and offer high-quality brands to the entire Kalispell community,” said Amanda Johnson, the assistant vice president and marketing director for Sierra. “Our mission at Sierra is to continue making active lifestyles more accessible with unbeatable prices. Kalispell residents can now enjoy their favorite fall activities without compromising their budget.”
Sierra will also donate $10,000 to A Ray of Hope, a nonprofit founded in 1999 to help and house community members in need, in celebration of its new location.
"We love the support from the community and all the businesses coming in,” said Wayne Appl, the outreach and fundraising coordinator for A Ray of Hope.
The donation will be used for A Ray of Hope’s auto repair shop and Tires for a Change program, Appl said. Every year, A Ray of Hope supplies a set of tires for someone in need and also operates an auto repair shop for people in need at a discounted rate.
Sierra Trading Post was founded in 1986 in Reno, Nevada. It was acquired by Massachusetts-based TJX Companies, Inc. in 2012, and the name was subsequently shortened. There are a total of 136 Sierra stores.
