PREP SOCCER: Lake City girls notch fourth straight shutout

COEUR d’ALENE — Juniors Katie Kovatch and Riley Brazle scored goals for the Lake City Timberwolves in a 2-0 win over the Coeur d’Alene Vikings in a 6A Inland Empire League match at the Irma Anderl Soccer Complex on Tuesday. 

It was the fourth straight shutout for Lake City (9-0-1, 2-0 6A IEL), which hosts Lakeland next Tuesday. 

Coeur d’Alene (6-4-2, 0-2) travels to Moscow on Oct. 2.

COEUR d’ALENE — Junior forward Isaac Lowder created and finished things for the Vikings under the lights at Viking Field. 

Lowder scored on a free kick in the first half and penalty kick in the second half, leading the Vikings past the Timberwolves in a 6A Inland Empire League match. 

“He was driving at people and making people either foul him or miss,” Coeur d’Alene coach Robbie Harmelink said. “He did a really good job of getting both shots on target. He’s just a lethal forward for us and did a great job tonight.” 

Sophomore Blake Baune and junior Kohen Pintler scored goals for Coeur d’Alene (7-3, 2-0 6A IEL), which hosts Sandpoint next Tuesday. 

Lake City (4-5-1, 0-2) travels to Lakeland next Tuesday.

SPOKANE — Senior forward Ethan Hunt scored two goals for the shorthanded Hawks in a nonleague win over the Dragons. 

Lakeland (5-4-1) had a player receive a red card after accidently kicking a St. George’s player as both played a corner kick in the 30th minute. The Hawks played a man down the rest of the match.

“At halftime, we had to come up with a different formation that we thought might work,” Lakeland coach Nick Haynes said. “And we might have had more chances with 10 than we did with 11. Ethan did a good job of dribbling through their defense and really had a good day today.” 

Lakeland faces Lewiston on Thursday at Walker Field. 

St. George’s is 1-2-1.
