Bonners Ferry Herald | UPDATED 6 months, 1 week AGO
Barbara Kaye Gravelle of Bonners Ferry, Idaho, being comforted by her family, passed away Friday, Sept. 19, 2025, at the age of 86.
She was born Sept. 26, 1938, in Bonners Ferry, Idaho, by parents Red and Bid Welch, and raised with her sister, Mary Welch. Kaye met and soon married her one true love, James Gravelle, on Sept. 16, 1961.
These two lovebirds had a lifelong marriage, traveling the world, fulfilling dreams and creating a family that they treasured more than anything else. Their eight children consumed their world and Kaye could not have been a happier mother. She adored each of her children, but her grandchildren were her pride and joy. Each of her 20 grandchildren was precious, each put a special twinkle in her eye and each brought nothing but joy and happiness to their grandma.
Kaye loved to camp and to fish and to spend quality time up in the mountains. Whether casting a line with a friend at Smith Lake or tossing a fly out on Boulder Creek with a grandchild, she loved to be outdoors with those she loved.
Kaye was preceded in life by her loving husband, Jim Gravelle; her sister, Mary Welch; her mother, Bid Welch; and her father, Red Welch.
Kaye was survived by her children, Mike and Kristi Gravelle, Kellie and Gilbert Covarrubias, Shannon and Joe Blackstock, Steve and Dee Gravelle, Pat and Jeannie Gravelle, Jeff Gravelle, Laurie and Kelly Boian, Kris and Ari Gravelle; by her grandchildren, Trevor and Dylan Gravelle, Matt, Chad, Alexis, Zach Covarrubias, Travis and Aimee, Jake and Kayla, Brett and Raiell Blackstock, Nick and Morgan, Casey and Kaitlyn, Brian Gravelle, Dalton, Tristyn, Sutton Gravelle, Kyle, Tyler, Ryan, Kaitlyn Boian, Paige Gravelle; and also by her great-grandchildren, Sophie, Isla, Beckett, Kaiden and Avia.
Kaye was a wonderful woman with a great big heart who knew nothing but love. She will forever be endeared for her kindness and will to make everyone happy.
Kaye’s services will be Thursday, Sept. 25, 2025, at 11 a.m. at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, 6712 El Paso St., Bonners Ferry, Idaho. Interment will be in the Grandview Cemetery in Bonners Ferry.
