May 7, 1947 – Sept. 21, 2025
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Dan Elkins, 78, of Hayden, Idaho, on Sunday, Sept. 21, 2025.
Born in Coeur d’Alene to Victor Eugene and Thelma Elkins, Dan was a proud third-generation Idahoan. On Aug. 31, 1968, he married his high school sweetheart, Sandy, and together they shared 57 wonderful years. They raised three daughters who were their greatest pride and joy.
Dan loved hunting and fishing with family and friends. He worked as a Corporate Saw Filer for 32 years at Idaho Forest Industries and 10 years at Bennett Lumber, where he was admired for his skills and attention to detail. In 1999, he set out to sail the world with Sandy as his first mate. They enjoyed winters in the south, chasing the warmth and sunshine, where he found joy in golfing, building projects, gardening, and, most of all, spending time with his family. He and Sandy were devoted Christians and members of Christ the King Lutheran Church for 70 years.
He also served in the Army National Guard, Unit 116, from 1966 to 1972, in the Artillery and Engineer Units.
Dan is survived by his loving wife, Sandy; his daughters and their spouses, Angie Lynn, Dan & Tammy Poulin, and Bob & Buddy Monk; his treasured grandchildren, Kiery and Kaylee Poulin, and Dakota Lynn; his brother, Gary Bjaaland; and his sister, Shireen Rogers.
Dan will always be remembered for the love and hugs he gave so freely, the joy he brought to others, and the steady kindness that defined his life. His presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who loved him.
