Bonners Ferry 28, Lakeside 21

BONNERS FERRY — Senior Keenan Maas erupted for 232 rushing yards and three touchdowns as the Badgers outscored the Eagles of Nine Mile Falls, Wash., 22-7 in the second half to complete a non-league comeback win Friday night in their home opener at Bonners Ferry High.

Maas, who scored on a 21-yard run to open the scoring in the first quarter, on a 65-yard run via a direct snap and fake handoff in the third, and on a 2-yard run in the fourth, surpassed 1,000 rushing yards on the season in the winning effort.

Down 21-20 with 4:28 remaining, the Badgers put together a final drive that was capped off by a 1-yard quarterback sneak by junior Alex Stolley with just over one minute to go. The Bonners Ferry defense, which had six total sacks on the night, held on Lakeside's final drive to give the Badgers the 28-21 victory.

Offensively, senior Conrad Hiatt added 108 rushing yards on 11 carries and caught three passes for 18 receiving yards on the evening.

On defense, senior James Morgen and Hiatt tied for a team-high eight tackles while Maas and senior Sulay Abubakari added seven tackles apiece. Morgen and Abubakari had two sacks each and Maas and junior Taylor Dodd both had one sack for the Badgers, which registered eight tackles for losses in total.

Junior Risten Allred hauled in his third career interception in the win for Bonners Ferry (3-2), which hosts Kellogg this Friday for another non-league matchup.
