Whitefish Theatre Company brings ‘Perfect Arrangement’ to the stage

The Whitefish Theatre Company opens its 2025-26 Black Curtain productions with the dark comedy, “Perfect Arrangement,” by Topher Payne.
It’s 1950 in Georgetown and new colors are being added to the Red Scare. Two U.S. State Department employees, Bob and Norma, have been tasked with identifying deviants within their ranks. There’s just one problem: Both Bob and Norma are gay and have married each other’s partners as a carefully constructed cover-up for their own careers. Inspired by the true story of the earliest stirrings of the American gay rights movement, “Perfect Arrangement” merges madcap sitcom-style laughs with provocative drama as two “All-American” couples struggle to maintain their cover — and their sanity — in 1950s America.
Making his directorial debut is Whitefish Theatre Company Operations and Marketing Director and actor, Mikey Winn.
“This kind of script is my favorite,” Winn said. “It has a little bit of everything. There are some really fun farce-like comedic elements to it, but at the same time, moments of big heart and plenty of juicy conflict.”
“The characters' central struggle, balancing personal safety and living as your authentic self, hits close to home for me. As someone who has experienced the dark side of the closet doors, I feel that this story is an important one to tell. Not only to celebrate how far we have come as a community, but also to spark the questions we still need to ask as we map a path toward a more accepting and equitable future.”
“Perfect Arrangement” stars Amy Galt as Millie, Andrew Matulionis as Bob, Sarah Bell Ghostlight as Norma, Justin Ghostlight as Jim, Joy James as Barbara, Marnie Klein as Kitty, and Christopher DeJohn as Theodore.
“This isn’t an easy script to navigate,” continues Winn. “The play bounces constantly between comedy and drama, and this cast is rising to the challenge and then some.”
A Black Curtain production involves minimal staging, set and costumes and the actors will read from scripts. Performances will be held at the O’Shaughnessy Center in Whitefish at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 27 and 28. A 2 p.m. matinee is also scheduled on Sept. 28.
Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for students and may be purchased online at www.whitefishtheatreco.org, at the Box Office, 1 Central Ave., Whitefish, or by calling 862-5371.
The Black Curtain series is sponsored by Marianne and John Evenhuis, Masterpiece One Floor & Home, Bet and Doug Wise and an anonymous sponsor.
