Pend Oreille Arts Council’s Art for Life program returns this fall with free weekly art classes for seniors at Sandpoint Area Seniors, Inc.

The classes, which resume Wednesday, Oct. 1, from 12:30-2:30 p.m., are led by local artist and instructor CJ Kovalchuk.

This season, participants will explore a variety of mediums and techniques designed to spark creativity — no prior experience required. October’s focus is on watercolor, Kumomi (cloud art), and mixed media illustration to help each artist find their unique voice. In November, the theme shifts to the “Art of the Fold,” where participants will learn to create meaningful handmade cards and gift holders. December brings opportunities to turn previous projects into memorable fine crafts, perfect for holiday giving.

“You don’t have to be an artist to have fun in these classes,” Kovalchuk said. “You just have to be willing to try new things, make unplanned mistakes, and get a little messy.”

Materials are provided, and donations benefit the Sandpoint Area Seniors, Inc. facility. Space is limited to 10 participants, with sign-up available at the senior center.
