The Coeur d’Alene Symphony Orchestra will open its "Voices of the Land: A Musical Season from Folk to Fantasy" with a family-friendly performance celebrating the animal kingdom through music.

The season-opening concert, "A Carnival of Animals … and More Animals," will take place at 3 p.m. Oct. 4 in the Schuler Performing Arts Center at North Idaho College, 1000 W. Garden Ave., Coeur d'Alene.

Audiences of all ages are invited to the program, which will feature:

• Camille Saint-Saëns’ "Carnival of the Animals" — a playful suite depicting creatures from lions to swans.
• Joseph Haydn’s "Symphony No. 82 —The Bear" — a vibrant and humorous work full of energy.
• Sergei Prokofiev’s "Peter and the Wolf" — a timeless narrated story introducing children to the orchestra.

The concert will also feature a narrator who will guide the audience through stories and bring the music to life. With whimsical characters, vivid imagery and a storytime format, this program is designed to delight young listeners while entertaining symphony enthusiasts of all ages.

“This program is our celebration of animals through music and story,” Conductor Danh Pham said in a Sept. 16 news release. “We want to appeal especially to young kids, and with an earlier start time, this should make it an easy and enjoyable afternoon for the whole family.”

The performance runs approximately 75 minutes.

Tickets are $35 for adults, $25 for seniors 65 and older, $15 for students, youth, veterans and active military and free for children 5 and younger. Visit cdasymphony.org for tickets and info.
