Moscow 2, Sandpoint 1

MOSCOW — The visiting Bulldogs outshot the Bears 15-6, but it was Moscow who grabbed a win over Sandpoint in a 5A Inland Empire League matchup held Thursday afternoon at the Moscow Community Playfields. 

Sandpoint High head coach Dan Anderson said a slow start and a defensive error put the Bulldogs down 1-0 heading into halftime. However, senior Huxley Hall found the net via a penalty kick to tie the game 1-1 not too long into the second half.

"We went down 2-1 on a counter attack goal and just didn't quite get it over the line in the end as far as making a comeback," Anderson said. "Just one of those days where it seemed like nothing could go our way. Lots to learn from this game and we will move forward as a team."

Junior goalkeeper Landon Brinkmeier had four saves for Sandpoint (8-3-1), which travels to Lewiston today for a 5A Inland Empire League matchup. 

If the Bulldogs defeat the Bengals, and Lakeland on Oct. 2, they'll clinch the No. 1 seed for the district championship. League bylaws state that a tiebreaker comes down to results against 6A opponents, and it's Sandpoint who has the advantage in that regard.

Moscow 3, Sandpoint 0

MOSCOW — The visiting Lady Bulldogs were blanked by the Lady Bears in a 5A Inland Empire League game held Thursday afternoon at the Moscow Community Playfields.

No other information was immediately available.

Sandpoint (2-8-1) will host Lewiston today for another 5A Inland Empire League matchup.
